Each funder is profiled from its public disclosures, then joined to the specific protected areas, carbon projects, and countries it supports. Money is traced only where a public source documents it, so every grant we list carries a link you can check, and those links are re-checked by hand, not on a fixed schedule; the date of the last check sits under the list. Profiles are refreshed by hand too, and each one shows the date it was last updated. Reading the sources is kept separate from matching them to Canopy records, which stops the model from inventing links that look plausible but are not documented. Every profile carries a confidence rating and a coverage note saying how much of the funder's African giving is actually traceable in public.

Honest limits. A large share of conservation capital moves through vehicles that barely disclose, so quiet giving is undercounted and each profile says where it cannot see. Coverage is Africa-only by design, and every entry is a sourced draft rather than a settled verdict.
